I am currently a Senior Analyst at Counterpoint Research, where I help leverage insights for industry partners and leading tech enterprises through in-depth market reports and industry seminars. Retracing my career path back into the tech industry after a break—and successfully transitioning into market research—was made possible largely thanks to my time at CNAM.

In front of the office

Prior to moving to France, I worked as a software engineer at LG Electronics, leading new product development in domains such as mobile and automotive systems, as well as analyzing emerging technologies for strategic adoption. In 2019, following my spouse’s overseas assignment, I stepped away from LG Electronics and moved to Paris, spending two years immersing myself in European culture and family life. During this period, I decided to return to my professional domain. Eager to challenge myself with emerging technologies and a new environment, I enrolled in the Master’s program in Computer Networks and IoT Systems at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM).

At CNAM, I engaged deeply with cutting-edge fields including 5G networks, IoT, and AI. Working alongside a diverse group of international students on team projects showed me the value and excitement of cross-cultural and cross-generational collaboration. While my previous corporate experience gave me deep domain expertise in software engineering, my stay abroad and my Master’s studies at CNAM broadened my overall perspective. Stepping beyond a purely developer-oriented mindset allowed me to view technology through the user’s eyes and gain a truly global outlook. Pursuing this master’s degree in a new country was a major step, but persistent effort and active collaboration with peers helped me navigate every challenge.

Counterpoint Research is a global research firm specializing in emerging technologies and telecommunications strategy. The company’s focus on gathering multi-faceted data, uncovering latent variables, and predicting market dynamics aligned seamlessly with my problem-solving mindset and cross-disciplinary background. This led me to join the firm as an Analyst in May 2024. Today, amid the massive wave of global AI adoption, serving as an analyst covering memory semiconductors – a critical domain where South Korea leads global innovation – is both fascinating and deeply rewarding.

My experience at CNAM served as a vital bridge to restart my career after a professional hiatus and re-align myself with the latest IT trends. While transitioning from software development to market research was a new challenge, the technical foundation from my engineering background – combined with the insights into AI and 5G gained at CNAM – continues to play a pivotal role in formulating strategic industry analysis.

While pursuing graduate studies directly after a Bachelor’s degree is a traditional route, my experience shows that a program like CNAM’s is equally valuable for professionals seeking to re-engage with the industry after a career break. I strongly recommend this path to anyone looking to reinvent their professional journey and step forward into new technology domains.
